Dara Puspita

I'm dying from love. Dara Puspita is making my life so much better, and making a name for themselves 40 plus years after the fact. As you may or may not have noticed, a resurgence of surfer music has come about. Yes, buzz bands like Tame Impala and Wavves are trying to imitate this style, but these cool chicas were the original thing. It's time to pull out your best dance moves to this band. The "scale the wall", the "jellyfish", or more obvious dance classics from the 60s. Look em up or create your own. These girls are the buis not only, because their sound is so legit, but also in that they are freaking INDONESIAN!! They were so right on in stylizing their music after great American surfer rock bands, which probably wasn't exactly OK in their DAY. Let me know what you think. Click aqui.

Who wants to bone?

Map of Africa does! Their song Bone is delicious. It's clever. It's bluesy. It's raw and dirrrty. Dirty in the sense that it evokes sensuality. Enjoy this one with your lova(ladies and gents), or do as I do and enjoy it with a glass of WINE! Best of Sundays to you baby girl. Let's bone.

Oh and P.S if you haven't discovered this yet... I've started linking youtube vids to the word that's displayed in gray (so you can actually sample these songs). Check it out.

Made my Day

Betheny Cosentino and I should be friends. She is HIGHlarious. While working today I sported some new tunes in my car (a.k.a jamming to indierock #26 on siriusxmu w/ Jake Fogelnest). Jake just happened to have Betheny co-host his show with him to present her band: Best Coast (how clever) and introduce their new album. When Jake asked Betheny about her interests her response was: WEED. Then boys. Then cats. She proceeded to sort out her interests in numerical order and decided from one to three she likes:

1. WEED
2. Cats
3. Boys

What a crazy gal! Fortunately, her music suits her playful sense of humor. Unlike Lady Gaga, this chick can be corky and weird without demanding so much attention. She's got her own kitschy sort of gig going on. Her own LITTERBOX! Check it out! This single has been around for awhile but it is still the buis. Best Coast - Boyfriend

Has it been awhile?

I guess it has. I lied to you. I did not keep up with this blog. I promise I'll never hurt you again. Some things have changed. I graduated from Texas Tech. I live in San Antonio now. Who would have thought? Not the graduating bit, but rather San Antonio. I'm not really used to the city yet, but that could be due in part to the fact that I runaway to Austin almost every weekend. I think that this lovely new song by The Walkmen will help explain my current situation. I'm stranded in San Antonio! Haha. I'm mostly kidding. Regardless, it is a catchy catchy tune. I find it most unusual. It seems to be reminiscent of their old stuff that could be featured on one of the many dramatic episodes of The O.C w/ Marissa Cooper (Mushy Barton). But hey, I'm not dogging the show. I shed many tears for Mariss. Also, the show helped introduced me to such buzz bands as The Walkmen w/ their many appearances at the bait shop. The Walkmen's Stranded is a perfect little precious to get me through my lonely days in SA. It's silly. It's sad. It's got the Mariachi influence!!! I hope you dig it as much as I do. Check it out!

ITUNES UTUNES we all scream for NEWTUNES

I received a wonderful gift for Valentine's from my dear Aunt Michelle: an Itunes Gift Card. When I receive an Itunes Gift Card I like to purchase individual songs, rather than an entire album, in order to create my very own compilation. The smaller the number in the gift certificate the more fun and challenging it is to create the perfect playlist. This is the mix I made, which I have very much enjoyed thus far:

1. Gov't Mule - Fools Moon
2. Jimi Hendrix - Valleys of Neptune
3. The Sandwitches - Back to the Sea
4. Louis Prima - I've Got You Under My Skin
5. Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place
6. Eric Bibb- Shine On
7. Vampire Weekend - One (Blake's Got a New Face)
8. Jean-pierre Massiera - Inside My Brain
9. Jean-pierre Massiera - Bizarre
10. Grizzly Beer - Two Weeks
11. Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - 40 Day Dream
12. Phoenix - Girlfriend

Listen to them all! I'm going to write about these artists in the near future!

Tom Waits - 2: 19

I don't even know how I got turned on to Tom Waits. His sound is a sort of gritty grimy grungy version of blues, I love it. It reminds me of Louisiana. It reminds me of those gator infested swamps and chillingly magnificent plantation homes. Imagine a summer day in Louisiana with the sun beaming its unforgiving blistering rays on your skin. Beads of sweat trickle off your forehead and over your eye lashes down to your mouth. A subtle burst of saltiness immediately triggers your thirst. Mmmmmmm. Lemonade.

LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum

LCD Soundsystem is by far one of my favorite Pandora stations. This song is the buis.
